Waukesha Co. drug free communities launch Menomonee Falls C.A.R.E.S. program

WAUKESHA COUNTY (WITI) -- Waukesha County Drug Free Communities (DFC) announces the expansion of its Community Alcohol Resources for Establishments and Servers (C.A.R.E.S.) Program, currently available in the City of Waukesha, to the Village of Menomonee Falls. The Menomonee Falls C.A.R.E.S. program is possible in cooperation with the Village of Menomonee Falls Police Department, the Menomonee Falls Chamber of Commerce and Froedtert Health Community Memorial Hospital.

Become a community reporter or contributor for BLOCKS

FOX6 has an incentive program for our community content providers. Just for writing a story and having it published in BLOCKS, you could win a pair of tickets to the August 4th Barry Manilow conert at the Milwaukee Theatre.

From now through July 27th, community content providers will receive one raffle entry for each article posted to the BLOCKS sites. Individual stories posted to multiple BLOCKS neighborhoods count as just one entry. Stories posted through RSS feeds are not eligible for this contest.

2nd annual Cop on Rooftop event to be held

This year marks the second year of the "Cop on Rooftop" initiative (also known as a building sit), created by The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin partnered by Dunkin Donuts.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin's goal for the 2012 event is fifteen participating locations that will raise at least $15,000 from customer donations to help the officers "get down" from the roof. Last year, 2 locations participated in the event and raised over $3,000.

This year's event is being run by SOWI and Dunkin Donuts. It is set for Friday, June 22, and it will run from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Waukesha County seeks applicants for Fairest of the Fair contest

The Waukesha County Fair Association is searching for contestants for this year's Fairest of the Fair competition. This competition is open to any Waukesha County resident over 18 years old by July 18th.

Fairest of the Fair entry forms can be found here. All entries and photos are due by June 29th, the final competition will be held on July 18th.

Grading criteria and expectations of the winner:

BEST FRIEND BOOT CAMP - INTRODUCTION TO PET OWNERSHIP

How many times have you heard, “Mom, I want a cat!” or “Dad, can we get a dog?”. The begging and pleading can stop today when you sign your child up for Elmbrook Humane Society’s Best Friend Boot Camp. The one-week class will teach your child the reality of what is really involved in pet ownership. The students will learn to be responsible and caring pet owners through hands on experiences with
adoptable animals at Elmbrook Humane Society.

Summer sessions for 2012:
Session 1: June 11 - 15
Session 2: July 16 - 20
Session 3: July 23 - 27
Session 4: August 13 - 17
